"Talking in volleys" – How do subatomic particles communicate?

There is practically nothing more important than our ability to communicate. Whether it’s to express positive or negative feelings, it’s a fundamental ability to influence (in the best sense of the word) those around us.

And it turns out that electrons (and all other particles in the atomic world) also need to communicate in some way. How else would they tell each other to move away or come closer? And, of course, in which direction to do it...

Well, while we use languages like Galician, Spanish, or even sign language, particles have a much more incredible and fun way of doing it: by throwing photons at each other. Yep, they throw photons.

Below, I’m sharing a video I submitted to the IGFAE science communication video contest where I explain exactly this (in Spanish, though). Even though I didn’t win, I think it turned out to be a pretty cool video. Hope you enjoy it!
